Members of an Italy-based clan of thieves who took over £1.2m worth of items, including from ex- Newcastle United forward Isak, have been ordered to pay back just £1 per person.

At a criminal assets proceeding at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela and the Nikolov brothers were instructed to pay back £1 per person while Charlie Jovanovic must hand over over a thousand pounds.

The court previously heard the gang came by ferry in the UK on 27 March 2024 and used a RV as their "base of operations", which they parked at a service area and Durham service stations while utilizing another car to scout out properties and carry out thefts.

On 31 March they took more than £1m of items including high-end fashion, purses, jewelry and a honor from a house on Clayton Road in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the residents were on holiday.

The following night, the gang entered a house on a gated cul-de-sac in Whitburn, South Tyneside, and stole designer handbags, valuables and footwear valued at more than one hundred thousand pounds.

After scouting out the football club's training ground for 48 hours, they then struck at the home of Sweden player Mr Isak in Darras Hall on 4 April, taking £10,000 in cash, £68,000 worth of jewellery and the player's one hundred twenty thousand pound luxury car.

The gang, who were portrayed by the prosecution as experienced itinerant burglars, wore gloves and face coverings, turned their phones off as they approached their objectives and strapped a license plate, which had been stolen from a garage in a town, on to their car with elastic bands.

They were arrested in the Birmingham on April 13.

Court Proceedings and Rulings

Valentino Nikolov had pleaded not guilty to the burglary plot but was convicted by the court, while his family members had all submitted admissions to the same charge.

But Charlie was the sole individual deemed to have any funds that could be "recovered", specifically £1,135.50 which had previously been confiscated by authorities, the judge heard, with two weeks to be spent in jail if he failed to pay.

The remaining members had no assets or assets so were directed to make a nominal fee of £1 each, with seven days in incarceration the consequence if the sum was not submitted.

Judge Spragg said if they were discovered with property in the future, "such as operating in Italy in a sports car or possessing a home", prosecutors could initiate further action to "satisfy the sum outstanding".
